March 2023 Newsletter

Check It Out Krum Public Library Newsletter March 2023 Volume 4 Issue 6

Director's Corner March supposedly arrives like a lion and leaves like a lamb - or is it the other way around? Whichever we have fun programs, great books to read and movies to watch whether the weather is stormy or balmy!

Did You Know? If you forget what is in the newsletter or calendar later in the month, Mason now has a weekly blog called Mason's Musings that has updates on library happenings and the programs for the following week. It is published here with a preview on the library homepage each Friday.

Remember When? (A look back at important events in literary history—author birthdays, book/character debuts, and dates in books)

  • 3/4/1881 Sherlock Holmes takes his first case in A Study in Scarlet.

  • 3/9/2017 James Patterson's 200th book The Exile is published.

  • 3/17/1997 Lee Child publishes his first book Killing Floor.

  • 3/31/1855 British novelist Charlotte Brönte dies.

Staff Pick from Joy I recommend The Last Bookshop in London by Madeline Martin, which is set in World War 2. One of the things I tend to like about WW2 stories is the hope, the humanity, the courage, and the compassion that pour out in the midst of such dark times. This book did not disappoint with any of those themes. Follow the main character Grace as she moves to London from the country and then navigates the entirety of the war in London with hope and courage.
