June 2023 Volume 4 Issue 9

Director's Corner Summer Reading has arrived! Are you signed up? If not, follow the links and instructions on our website. We have prizes galore for all ages (including adults) and we really want to share! We have fun programs for all ages - check out our calendars for more information.

Did You Know? We will be having a Battle of the Books Rematch this summer with the Sanger Public Library. Be sure to track your reading in ReadSquared to help us beat Sanger in our friendly competition! Check out the study room window display each week to see who is in the lead.

Remember When? (A look back at important events in literary history—author birthdays, book/character debuts, and dates in books) 6/3/1936 Texas author Larry McMurtry is born. 6/10/1928 Maurice Sendak is born. 6/22/1947 Sci-fi author Octavia Butler is born. 6/28/1989 John Grisham’s debut book A Time to Kill is published.

Staff Pick - Patron Guest Review This month we have the special treat of a guest recommendation from a library patron. KPL member TS recommends the Newbery Honor book My Father’s Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett. This delightful children’s fantasy book is full of imagination and adventure as the main character loads up his knapsack and goes in search of a baby dragon. My Father’s Dragon was first published in 1948 and has been reprinted several times. Though we do not have it at KPL, you can request it be sent through transit from our NTLC member libraries.

The second is a Library Quilt Project. Each week we will setup a small themed project, such as painting, sewing, or other technique. To participate, stop by during library hours and follow the instructions for the week. At the end of the summer, staff will make the project pieces into a Library Quilt.
